DIRECTOR’S NOTES “A Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas” Back Come celebrate the spirit of the Christmas season with Stone’s Throw Theatre and our production of one of the classic Laura Ingalls Wilder family adventures in “A Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas”. We are proud to also sponsor a Native American Heritage Festival along with the play that will feature authentic Native American music, dancing, exhibits and education. Look for our actors in the Carthage Christmas Parade on December 4, 2006. We will also travel to Mark Twain, Steadley, College Heights and Thomas Jefferson Elementary Schools with the play for the first time in our theatre’s storied history.
Upon arriving at the theatre, our patrons will see the outdoor displays reflecting Native American and 1870’s lodging, transportation and tools essential to our forefather’s survival. You will be greeted to the sounds of the season with our carolers and, upon entering the theatre, you can view, at your own pace, the exhibits from the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home and Museums in Mansfield, Missouri and Burr Oak, Iowa and from the Prairie State Park, our co-sponsors. Our patrons will also view the various Native American exhibits from the festival. Our dining area will be decorated with festive décor of the season with accents from the 1870’s and enjoy nightly music from our entertainers.
The play features the 1876 adventures of the Ingalls family, Pa, Ma, Mary, Laura and Carrie, as they brave the challenges of the early settlers in pioneer America. Reeling from the tragic death of Baby Freddie, the Ingalls family is forced to backtrack through additional adversity to work in a hotel in Burr Oak, Iowa. Laura and her family continue to struggle through the challenges while living in the hotel, all the while yearning for an imagined Western bucolic paradise, and experience the entire gamut of emotions that lead up to “A Laura Ingalls Wilder Christmas”.
The play will feature live animals, snow and contains numerous symbolic elements of both the Christmas season and the Laura Ingalls Wilder books and history. The show has many twists and turns and our present to you, in this holiday season, are the surprises that abound in the play and in the theatre of joy, love and hope. Come share in the Christmas spirit and take away an experience that we promise will enhance your enjoyment of this important holiday. Season’s greetings from the Theatre, the cast, staff and crew.
